Red Giselle
Description
The Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, named after Dmitry Shostakovich, occupies an important place in the cultural life of Samara. Founded in 1931, it opened its doors to the public with a production of Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. That same year, viewers saw the first ballet premiere - the play The Red Poppy to the music of Reinhold Glière. In 1982, the theatre was given the status of "academic", and in 2022 it was named after the great composer Dmitry Shostakovich.
Located on a historic square known before the revolution as Sobornaya, the theatre building is designed in the neoclassical style. The authors of the project were Leningrad architects Noah Trotsky and Nikolai Katzenellenbogen. The central part of the facade is decorated with columns and sculptural elements, which gives the building a majestic appearance.
The theater plays a key role in the cultural life of Samara, offering viewers a wide range of opera and ballet performances. For the convenience of visitors, the schedule of performances and the playbill are available on the official website. You can buy ticketsboth at the theater box office and online. In 2006, a large-scale reconstruction of the building began, completed by the anniversary year of 2010, which made it possible to preserve the historical heritage of the theater and adapt it to modern standards.
