About event

Ballet "Russian Hamlet" directed by Boris Eifman, based on the music of L. Beethoven and G. Mahler, tells about the life and tragic fate of Paul I. The choreographic work, limited by the time frame of Paul's succession, demonstrates his internal struggle with the world around him, built on violence and lies. Eifman skillfully conveys the emotional experiences of the protagonist, creating a powerful emotional effect.

Staging "Russian Hamlet" was successfully shown in various countries, including the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, China, South Korea and Argentina. Critics praised Eifman's work, noting his unique approach to choreography and the emotional richness of the performance. The New York Times called Boris Eifman “virtually the only choreographer with a special gift for electrifying images and theatrical fantasies.”

The Shanghai Oriental Art Center will become a new venue for the presentation of the revived ballet “Russian Hamlet”. The center is known for its high standards of organizing cultural events and modern technical equipment. Spectators will be able to enjoy the unique atmosphere and high quality of performance, which makes this event significant in the cultural life of Shanghai.
